What is YSEALI Innovation Challenge:
The Challenge is a way to collect innovative technology solutions to some of the region’s most complex challenges in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries.
The Challenge is a key part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. YSEALI seeks to promote and strengthen leadership development and networking through a variety of events in Southeast Asia.
The YSEALI World of Food Innovation Challenge is being implemented by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training (USAID COMET) program in partnership with technology giants Cisco, Intel, National Instrument and Feed to Future.
More than 600 million people living in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) states could benefit from your innovative ideas to boost regional food security.
Mission (Almost) Completed: YSEALI Innovation Challenge
Think three youth can’t change the world? Think again!
The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) World of Food Innovation Challenge invited students in post-secondary technical and vocational education and training institutions and universities in the region to submit their innovative technology solutions to regional agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries challenges.
In July 2016, the top 10 semifinalist teams participated in a three-day Technology Bootcamp in Singapore with technology giants Cisco and Intel. During the training program, participants worked on skills to further develop and pitch their ideas. After the Bootcamp, participants went back to refine their solutions and competed in an online live pitch to subject-matter experts.
In October 2016, the top 3 finalist teams pitched their solutions at the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology (COST) Meeting in Cambodia.
As part of the final installment of the Challenge, the top 3 teams are participating in a five-day study tour to gain exposure to innovation and technology networks in the United States.
This includes pitching their technology-based solutions to a study visit IC2, research unit for the University of Texas at Austin in March 2017.
And enriching their experience and knowledge through a workshop that introduces cutting-edge technology hosted by National Instrument at their headquarter.
The YSEALI Innovation Challenge Partners include the ASEAN-U.S. Partnership for Good Governance, Equitable and Sustainable Development and Security (ASEAN-U.S. PROGRESS), Cisco, Intel, National Instrument and Feed the Future.
